The Speech I'm analyzing is the one President Joe Biden delivered as his final State of the Union Address before the 2024 presidential election on March 7, 2024. President Joe Biden addressed Congress and the nation in what was arguably one of the most combative speeches of his presidency, this speech served as a summary of his achievements as president and a challenge to his opponent Donald Trump during the next election. During the speech, President Joe Biden addressed many things like the economy, democracy, reproductive rights, healthcare, foreign policy, and the war happening in Ukraine and Gaza

The main message of Biden’s speech was that America is moving forward and that he’s the one helping make it better. He said the economy is growing, jobs are coming back, and big companies are starting to make things in America again. He called this “Bidenomics,” which means building the economy from the bottom up, not just helping the rich get richer. He also said the government has done a lot to lower the cost of medicine, fix roads and bridges, and bring internet to more places. One emotional part of the speech was when Biden talked about abortion rights. He brought up stories of women who had to leave their states to get medical help because of new laws. He promised that if he’s re-elected, he will fight to bring back Roe v. Wade. This was clearly aimed at Trump and others who still say the 2020 election was stolen. In my opinion, I think the speech was strong. Biden spoke with passion, and even though he’s not the smoothest speaker, you could tell he really cared

he two news sources I looked at were CNN and Fox News, they had different things to say about the union address given by President Biden, CNN, which is more on the liberal side, said Biden gave a strong speech. They said he stood up for working people and called out “MAGA extremists,”. CNN focused on the good parts of the economy and how Biden is trying to protect people’s rights and make America a better place. Fox News, which is more conservative, said the speech was “divisive” and not truthful. They said Biden made the country sound better than it really is. They also pointed out that many Americans are still struggling with high prices, crime, and problems at the border. Fox News focused more on the negative stuff and less on the emotional parts of the speech. The social media I chose is Twitter, people had a lot to say, some supported Biden, while others were against him. Some were excited and said this was the best speech Biden has given they praised him for standing up for women’s rights and democracy. Others were angry and said he’s not doing a good job and he's ruining the nation. It was clear that CNN and Fox News reported on the same speech in completely different ways. CNN mostly agreed with Biden and made him look like a strong leader. Fox News, on the other hand, thought he was being fake or ignoring real problems. I think both sides left things out. CNN didn’t talk much about things that weren’t going well, like immigration or inflation. Fox News didn’t mention the parts of the speech that were powerful or meaningful. I believe both media weren’t fair because they both overlooked things that went against their side, twisting the speech so that it fit in their narrative and only showing parts that fit their opinion.

In conclusion, when I watched the speech, I thought President Biden made a lot of good points, especially about protecting rights and fixing the economy. But when I looked at the news and social media, I realized how different people can hear the same thing but come away with totally different opinions. CNN saw a great leader who fought for the country, while Fox News saw a president who was failing. Social media showed both, there were people who supported President Biden while there were those who opposed him too. I don’t believe most media are reliable and trustworthy, this can be seen in the CNN and Fox example where both looked at the same speech but came up with different responses to it. A politician can come across differently in their address because the media tends to cut things out to it, so the address fits their narrative. This can mean many different things for political communications, journalism, and us the audience, this means we have to research ourselves before believing the media.
